Statistic for today

1% of the American citizenry owns the bulk of America's stocks and bonds.

For the other 99% of us... what, exactly, are we losing when the stock market goes down? Our "retirements"? Hah. Our retirements, other than Social Security, are already gone, looted by collapsed pension funds and venal 401(k) money managers. It was all a ponzi scheme to begin with, intended to make us (the majority) feel like we had a stake in the game so that we wouldn't interfere with the outrageous profits being made by the top 1% of the population. And now? Well. So the scheme is collapsing. Big effin' surprise, these things always do.

Ground rules: Comments that consist solely of insults, fact-free talking points, are off-topic, or simply spam the same argument over and over will be deleted. The penguin is the only one allowed to be an ass here. All viewpoints, however, are welcomed, even if I disagree vehemently with you.

WARNING: You are entitled to create your own arguments, but you are NOT entitled to create your own facts. If you spew scientific denialism, or insist that the sky is purple, or otherwise insist that your made-up universe of pink unicorns and cotton candy trees is "real", well -- expect the banhammer.
