Icelandic torch

This music sounds vaguely Italian, as does Emiliana Torrini's name. But she's Icelandic. Her name came from her father, who was an Italian immigrant. This is "If You Go Away", which is a cover of a French song (hmm, so yes, not Italian, but at least European), and was on her 2000 promo album Rarities which basically was her shopping herself to English-language music companies for distribution outside Iceland. I love her passionate yet creepy take on this song...

  1. Beautiful. Reminded me of the song in this video, somehow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-qqgwW1HwQ

I had watched this for the technical content, but enjoyed the song.

  2. I do not usually feature covers. Cover bands are lame, IMHO. But Emiliana Torrinis' take on this song simply stuck on me when I was looking at which one of her songs to feature on this day (for I was specifically looking for one of *her* songs)... I kept going to some other song, then back to this song, which was so passionate and haunting... finally I said F*** it and gave in to the inevitable.
