Has anybody ever vacuumed their cat?

Just wondering. Poor baby is shedding. I'm getting tired of brushing him. Cat fur flies everywhere. Agh!

  1. You got a black cat that doesn't brush himself?

Go out and buy one of those metal brushes that looks like a torture device for your lawn. Hold said device in front of cat. Cat brushes self.

Failing that, nail his paws to the floor and turn on your iRobot...

  2. Yes, someone did try to vacuum their cat once...seventeen reconstructive surgeries later....

  3. My black cat does brush himself. It's my white-and-gray cat (who has medium hair) who doesn't brush himself, though he tolerates me brushing him. I don't have many pictures of him, though, because he runs and hides whenever he sees me get out the camera. Doesn't like the bright light. Anyhow, like I said, he tolerates me brushing him, but fur flies all over the place. Including up my nose. Making me sneeze. It'd be nice if the brush had a vacuum on it to suck the hair up before it flies all over. Hmm. I have a new vacuum cleaner that really sucks (the good way), that does have a brush on it. Hmm.

Out of scientific curiousity, I decided to see what would happen. I brought the vacuum cleaner out. He saw the vacuum cleaner and ran away. I tracked him down and brought him back to where the vacuum cleaner was. I turned on the vacuum cleaner.

Unfortunately, lacking three hands, I was unable to both a) secure the cat, and b) start vacuuming him. When I released one hand to grab the vacuum brush, he wiggled out with much loss of blood on my part and went and hid under my bed. Unfortunately, my penguin rotundity is no longer suited for excursions under beds, thus I gave up and decided that no, vacuuming a cat isn't a useful way to prevent fur flying all over the place. Indeed, plenty of fur flew. As well as penguin feathers. Agh!

  4. My sister says that her kitties like the hand vac okay. If you can get him used to the sound you might be able to successfully wield brush and hand vac during the grooming sessions. Three hands would be better, tho...
