WTF?!

This is WarPaint, "Undertow", off their album The Fool. And I am quite baffled by the fact that these women's music is getting millions of views on YouTube, given that two years ago they were utterly unknown and even today you'll never hear their stuff on the radio, at least not on *these* shores...

  1. Can't say I'm delighted with the on and off reverb effect in the vocals, though it does kind of go with the on and off out-of-focus vid.

Now - let's have a slumber party in the bed of a pick-up truck.

    Cheers!

  2. They're vaguely connected to the "dream pop" movement, which relies on a lot of reverb to give a "dreamy" sound to the result. Which is why I'm rather baffled as to their new-found popularity, the last time a dream pop type band got any sort of traction was probably Mazzy Star with "Fade into You", which similarly drowned Hope Sandoval's voice in enough reverb to choke a trombone.
