Since Rachel Bird and Gideon Codding care so much about the sanctity of marriage that they, err, won't get married because they don't like legal terminology used on marriage license applications in the state of California, I have a modest suggestion for them. Given the great respect they have shown for the institution of marriage, such great respect that they'll allow a little "person a" and "person b" to stop them, my suggestion is...
That way they avoid all that "person a" and "person b" stuff (since Las Vegas doesn't do that) and give the institution of marriage the respect with which they apparently hold it.

An other option is that I do marriages that are not government recognized.
ReplyDeleteThey don't much like that but I don't care, the government is not in charge of this planet, never mind what they think.
I do believe that the pair is protesting the idea of gay marriage. Fine, they are under no obligation to wed the same sex.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if wifey was a virgin. Since she had been bought before, I hope hubby had paid less than virgin price. Oh, what family business was merged by this contract?

Oh, NO, Not the <blink>BlInK</blink> tag!
ReplyDeleteOh, sure, comments don't get to use blink. That's supremely unfair ;-)
this post is _not_ 'solely stupidity'.. close, but there simply must be some redeeming value.
I had to come up with something appropriately tacky, second Anon :-).
ReplyDeleteBBC, yes, they did a church wedding but did not get the license to register it with the state because they don't like the terminology on the license. Apparently they think legal terminology is more important than the institution of marriage. That is why I suggest to them that they go someplace that has different terminology. Like, say, Nevada. Las Vegas. The tackiest wedding chapel I could find. The... the... Elvis Wedding Chapel! That way they can formalize their white trash wedding to the strains of white trash crooning with all the dignity it apparently deserves.
Mold: good point that "traditional" marriage has meant different things over the years...
