America the Brave

For some definition of brave that includes standing up to a terror threat that is... err... light, flaky and buttery.

Yes, the terror threat that caused the St. Petersburg (Florida) courthouse to be evacuated was... a croissant. In a paper bag. Because, you know, all those French are nothing but trouble.

Says Bryan at Why Now::

I think people would like to believe that this is a rare occurrence, but, alas, the US spends a hell of a lot of money every year blowing up people’s lunches. Not that long ago cops could be depended on to eat found lunches, not detonate a blob of C4 near them. [There are rumors that the Air Force EOD guys do eat the lunches, but blow up the bag because they like excuses to blow things up.]
I think Fixer at Alternate Brain can verify the validity of that last sentence ;).

Ah, America the Brave. For some definition of "brave" that includes cringing in fear of killer croissants. Siiiiiiigh!

  1. Shit like this would be funny if it wasn't so damned pathetic. It's a sad testament to how far the mighty have fallen. Surely we're near the bottom, surely that hard and unforgiving landing place is rushing up at us, but maybe not. It's hard to tell because I'm too afraid to look.

  2. I knew a guy in a family owned blasting business that was crazier than a shithouse rat. Everybody said it was because his father gave him a stick of dynamite to chew on when he was teething.

  3. .50 caliber machine gun... WTF?!

    Bossier's citizen militia is more of a threat to the local beer supply than anything else, I can tell you that from personal experience with the sorts who join those things. They join'em mostly because they get to go out in the woods with big guns (to compensate for having a small one) and shoot shit up while drinking enough beer to float a boat. You fired a shot in anger in their direction, 99% of them would soil their britches and run screaming for Mommy.

    Bossier Parish is the home of Barksdale Air Force Base, so yeah, it's conceivable that Barksdale might be the target of terrorists. But somehow, I doubt that the Air Force security folks at Barksdale need the help of a buncha good ole' boys ten sheets to the wind to help'em hold off the mighty Islamist threat. Crap, they'd probably shoot the good ole' boys just on general principles if said good ole'boys tried to "help" them...
