Which book shall I read over the Memorial Day Weekend?

Hmm, The Mighty Fang seems to be indicating that the Tony Hillerman is the one he wants to read... a cat with good taste in books. Heh.

  2. i haven't read that one. my thanks to the mighty fang for pointing it out.

also, if you have enough space on your shelves for a cat, especially one the size of tmf, you don't have enough books.

louis l'amour's greatest contribution: he was prolific. the books are basically fluffy reads, but yes, good for getting lost in the landscape.

  3. J: Not really. TMF is a very nice and soft and furry kitteh, but brains is not his thing. He's not stupid, but he's only average intelligence for a kitteh.

w3: I've read a little L'Amour. In his later less-pulpy books he did a *lot* of research to be as realistic as possible regarding the background of how the West was settled and how people lived, and it shows. The early stuff, on the other hand, is pure fluff that he tossed out quickly for dough, and it shows. I don't read L'Amour in general because the quality is so uneven though. Hillerman, on the other hand, wrote at least five novels that were just astoundingly good, and the rest were at least competent, until his last few where it was clear he was dying and just trying to get them written as fast as he could before he croaked. Or as Isaac Asimov once replied when asked, "what would you do if you knew you had only six months to live" -- "type faster."

h: As you can see, TMF is kinda sagging off the side of that bookshelf. I have plenty of books, thank you very much :-).
