A stranger

Leonard Cohen, pure poetry in musical motion.

Watch his cheek at the very end of the song. A real musician doesn't just play it. He feels it.

  1. one of my favorite cohens. yeah, there are some songs that i dearly love, but pay a huge price to play.

othertimes there are similar rewards. last time i backed emmylou we were doing a thing with me on the celtic harp and emmylou singing.

one of her favorites was a very spare arrangement i did of the old mountain ballad "barby allen." lots of open fifths, lots of space between the notes and chords. we finished playing it one night and emmylou, with tears streaming down her face leaned over and kissed me on the cheek.

    then i fell apart too.

  2. He's on tour here now. I'm not going -- he was a favourite of my ex-wife, so hearing him makes me ill -- but he was able to get well-known Aussie musos to BEG for the privilege of opening for him. Still, the poor bugger looks petrified, he's so old. Mrs. Bukko, who likes him (eerie how Wife #2 is so much like #1, only not insane) says he had to go back on tour because his manager ripped him off.ciescalp
