The official state coffee of Louisiana, Community Coffee, has a "buy 4, get 4 free" offer for shipments to APO/FPO addresses.
Just say no to that nasty battery acid sh*t sold in cans... send some real coffee to your favorite troop today!

One might get the impression that you just may not like chicory. I'm not a coffee drinker so I'm not qualified to take sides. I just know that its taste never lived up to the smell (better than an alarm clock).
ReplyDeleteB, it's not chicory that's the issue. Community Coffee sells both chicory and non-chicory coffees. It's the fact that Maxwell House coffee (the kind provided for our troops) is some nasty battery-acid-tasting shit. It's good to the last drop, all right. Preferably into the trash can.

For us, it's fresh-ground dark Italian espresso put through one of these babies. It's like the Ferrari of home coffee machines. Enough steam pressure that it could fly across the street if you mounted wings on it. We take our coffee as seriously as we take our wine. Luckily, Oz has a great coffee culture because of all the Italian immigrants. Hard to find a bad cuppa here.
ReplyDeleteOkay, but this post isn't about Australia. And we take our wines and coffees seriously in the United States, too. What's your point?
ReplyDeleteWhen Andy was deployed both times, the thing he liked all of us to send to him the most was "good coffee." He was fortunate enough to always manage to live in a place with a coffee maker handy. I still cannot go into a market and walk past the coffee aisle without thinking to myself for just a nanosecond, "better pick up a couple of bags for Andy."
That makes no sense, of course, because Andy is dead.
The point is just to natter about coffee, Laura, and to fill people in on small bits about life in a distant but interesting country, similar in many ways to the U.S. It's conversation. Like talking about the weather. Plus, I'm proud of our coffee machine. It's a fancy, bright and shiny object.
