I want a poney

The Stone Poneys were the first band Linda Ronstadt had any kind of success with, and the last band she played in before going solo. This was their one and only hit in 1966 when Linda was 19 years old (this performance is in 1967 when she's 20 years old), written for Linda by Mike Nesmith of The Monkees, who thereby redeemed his soul from Satan where he'd checked it in while trying for TV success.

  1. Damn, she was cute!

She's only 6 months older than I am. I would have worked, don't ya think?

    Cheers!

  2. This is a wonderful performance but I like the one with Bobby Darrin better. That voice could bring a strong man to his knees.

  3. Jazz, Linda was doing the couch dance for songwriters and producers. It was the only way she could get ahead back in that era before women's lib. So unless you were a songwriter or producer, nope, you weren't in the running.

BCFD36, I wanted a performance where she was in her early hippy barefoot stage. Vids of those are rare on YouTube, and none of them have Bobby Darrin in it.
