Sunny day

Today was 72F and sunny here in the Silly Cone Valley. Eat yer heart out, Northeast and Midwest :).

The rose bushes were starting to put on a tiny bit of new growth, so I pruned them back and fertilized them and watered in the fertilizer. I also cut back the vine that spends all summer flowering and attracting hummingbirds and bees, it was threatening to take over the place. This same vine was at my old place and they always cut it back severely this time of year, it always grew back with tons of new flowers, so I figure that's the right thing to do. I also soaped down the aphids on my trumpet vines, sigh! Oh well, at least they keep the aphids off of everything else.

Still left to do: The lemon trees are still ripening their latest crop of fruits, so I can't prune them back right now. The fuchsias need pruning back since they make their flowers on new growth, but I'll need to be careful there, they are old and not very healthy. Things are looking a bit dry right now, but we're supposed to get rain on Monday and Tuesday so I'm reluctant to water...

  1. That's right, just rub it in! We're finally due to be above freezing for a few days - at least, that's what the weather dudes have been promising. I'll believe it when I see it....

  2. Problem with that, Random, is that when it's above freezing during the day and below freezing at night but the average temperature is still below freezing, it just turns the streets into solid sheets of ice... I'd rather it just stay below freezing in that case, yo. Not that I have any risk of that here in the Silly Cone Valley :).

  3. Yeah, you're quite right, ice can become a problem in that case, but it's been so long since we've had highs in the 30s that I think we'll just deal with it! LOL How 'bout sending some of that warm weather our way, please? I'm thoroughly sick of knee-deep snow and having the cats shove me out of bed so *they* can have the electric blanket. :(

  5. Not bad, but we were bumping 80 today in LA.

  6. You're a good tenant, Tux. Meanwhile, I'm disappointed that our good landlady installed a storage shed for the family who lives in our house's basement, and the workmen put it right on top of the strip of flower bed where I planned to grow potatoes and other root vegetables this summer as part of our survivalist garden. Plants ain't got a chance in this mean old world...
