Prey

In this brave new world that we have created, there are two kinds of people: Predators, and prey. And most of us... we're the prey.

Alan Wilder, formerly of Depeche Mode, with his "band" Recoil. Alan rounded up bluesman Joe Richardson of New Orleans to do the vocals on this one, and the video, again, was made by his Russian patrons, the children of Russian oligarchs who took a fancy to Alan and his music and decided to do it for him.

In this brave new world, Alan is their pet, and the rest of us... we are their prey.

  1. Completely OT, but:

    Stealth Penguin?

Is this the first step in the Great Tuxologist Jihad? I always thought it would be monkeys who would one day rise up and enslave humanity, but maybe I was looking in the wrong place...

  2. That is bizarre, Aaron. Especially the fact that this penguin survived to become so big and healthy. Emperor penguins have a white belly and dark top because this camouflages them from predators as they swim in the ocean -- the white belly looks like a cloud in the sky to predators underneath them, and the dark top looks like dark ocean water to predators flying above them. So oddly enough, your off-topic post *is* on topic for this particular music video, since this coloration would make that penguin prey in his natural habitat.

BTW, it is absolutely coincidence that this music video popped up immediately after I posted the stuff on the payday loan predators... I actually have several weeks worth of music videos in the queue at any given time, and this one was queued up sometime in February. Still it is so appropriate to the topic :).

  3. The song made me think of a mash-up of Morphine and the Blind Boys of Alabama, trying to re-do the theme song from "The Sopranos." Or the darkest stuff by the North Mississippi All-Stars.

  4. I don't know of any stealth penguins up here, but we did have a Militant Penguin until an arson fire burned it out just after we immigrated.

  5. Apologies for chiming in again, but I was surprised at the comment reactions to the stealth penguin.

First off, the pic Aaron linked to had almost 3,000! comments when I checked. The awesome agglomerating power of teh Internets tubez -- that many responses to a bird shot...

Also amazing was the debate over whether it was Photoshopped, even with another picture of an Obama penguin. No wonder so many Americans can't agree on the very nature of reality -- these days, anything can be faked.

Ground rules: Comments that consist solely of insults, fact-free talking points, are off-topic, or simply spam the same argument over and over will be deleted. The penguin is the only one allowed to be an ass here. All viewpoints, however, are welcomed, even if I disagree vehemently with you.

WARNING: You are entitled to create your own arguments, but you are NOT entitled to create your own facts. If you spew scientific denialism, or insist that the sky is purple, or otherwise insist that your made-up universe of pink unicorns and cotton candy trees is "real", well -- expect the banhammer.
