The Paybacks were a Detroit rock band fronted by Wendy Case and active from 2000 to 2006. You think of Detroit, you think of guitars and head-bangers, and yeah, they definitely rocked out. I figured we needed a palate cleanser after all the bluegrass and such that I've been playing recently :).,
This is "Black Girl" off their 2002 album Knock Loud. And, uhm, yeah, they do :).

When I think of Detroit, I think of Ron Kischuk, Leo Harrison, Mel Wonzo Dick Shearer, Ed Gooch and Randy Hawes.

When I think of Detroit music, I think of all kinds of things. I think of some of guys Jazzbumpa mentioned although I haven't heard of all of those guys. Lots of good Jazz in Detroit though. Lately, I've listening to a lot of White Stripes, Kid Rock, and Eminem when I need a Detroit fix.
ReplyDeleteI've decided that the song Lafayette Blues by the White Stripes is just exactly the song that I most strongly associate with Detroit. Partly because the lyrics are just Detroit street names pronounced in the French way rather than the Detroit way and my friends and I used to do that after French class all the time.
But one thing I never ever think of when I think of Detroit music is Ted Nugent. I am not sure if I actually dislike his music or if I just associate it with Ted himself, who I think of as a repugnant human being. But oh man, if there is anything I can do to help you associate any other music with such a great city, please let me know.
