Daddy issues

This is Australian band Magic Dirt, with "Daddy" off of their 1994 EP Life was Better. Magic Dirt was active from 1994 (with the release of this EP) to around 2009 when co-founder , Dean Turner died of cancer.

The lead singer, Adalita Srsen, has gone on to start a solo career. I wonder what her songs sound like?

  1. I saw Magic Dirt at the first big Aussie outdoor rock festival I ever attended (Big Day Out 2006) and ignored them at a couple of others that I attended. By the time I was around, their music was more like Korn and similar bands who had a lot of sudden tempo changes and heavy thrash in the beats. The punkish Aussie bands I favoured were more along the New York Dolls/Ramones/Stooges axis -- frantic, aggro, but with the musical structure proceeding straight ahead.

It's too bad I couldn't get into Magic Dirt, because they hailed from Geelong, right around the bay from where I lived in Melbourne. They played in town all the time, but I couldn't be arsed to pay for a ticket to see them.

  2. What's interesting is that there are so many decent bands from the Australia / New Zealand area that we've never heard of here on this side of the pond. Or they have to move to England to get noticed, like another band I've featured here.
