Microsoft Office sucks the fucking big one

I've been fighting that fucking piece of shit Microsoft Office (hereby called "Microsoft Piece of Shit") all day long now. I give up. I am rebooting into MacOS and going into the Windows directory and removing every fucking piece of that goddamned piece of crap pile of reeking feces, and installing OpenOffice and Thunderbird. Life's just too short to deal with crappy software.

Microsoft can just shove their piece of shit where the sun don't shine. Corporate standard? Fuck that shit. They'll take the Office 2003 documents that OpenOffice produces, and if I can't read their document, I'll tell'em to put it out into an older format. I'm too senior and paid WAY too much to be wasting my time on this fucking Microsoft bullshit. I'm supposed to be doing work, not fucking with nonsense.

  1. Do a lot/most companies still use email client software, rather than something web-based?

Well, now that I think of it, my wife's firm still uses Outlook.

    Oh, the horror.

  2. When I went to work at my last job, the computer at my desk had Outlook Express. That lasted about a week and I dumped it first for Eudora and then for Thunderbird.

It had Word `00, which sucked, so I went with my own copy of WordPerfect 9. I now have WP 14 on my home machines. Open Office is OK, but I still just use WP 14. For when I have to use Word, I added a converter that changes .docx into .doc.

If we ever get attacked by ICBMs, I would not be totally displeased if the first one obliterated Redmond, WA.

  3. Dope, there's a whole industry based around Exchange hosting. Unfortunately there's still a buncha pointy headed bosses who believe Outlook with Exchange is the only way to manage their calendar. What do they care, they have IT people to do the work for them. (This was for my personal laptop so I could read the corporate email while *not* at work).

Misfit, the issue is calendars. My boss is a big believer in setting up meetings in the Exchange calendar system. So I guess I'm grumpily going to uninstall Office and then re-install it from scratch again.

BTW, this whole mess started when I attempted to install Office 2010 without first uninstalling Office 2007. Once I did that, neither Office 2007 nor Office 2010 would work. It left a mess all over the place and I can't even get them to cleanly uninstall, the uninstall always fails and looking at my hard drive, the piece of crap programs are still there. I think I found a recipe on the Internets shortly before I went to bed last night, but still -- this is ridiculous.

One thing I like about MacOS -- all the libraries and shit that go with a specific program are stored with that program in its .app directory, other than the configuration info, which goes into Library. So if you install two versions of the program, you have, err, two versions of the program. None of this bullshit where files from one version overwrite files from another version and break that shit. GAH! The stupid, it burns, it burns! (BTW, Linux also has this stupid, to a certain extent... but not as bad, because Linux has real package management and won't *let* you overwrite another program's files without making you type a very verbose --force flag first).

  4. Did you ever use WordPerfect or Lotus? Much better programs from this user's point of view. I knew the marketing would win that one. *sigh*

ps, I wish I had taken your advice on the Mac years ago, I like it so much better.

  5. Badtux, I agree with you on how much that Outlook Express "blows". I'm attempting to recover an Outlook Express settings from a client's "Winblows" XP Media Center install, that had to be completely restored to factory condition. And of course OE can't be "bothered" to keep account settings, etc in a file automatically.... Microshaft will always suck the big one (as you call it)...

  6. I'm with you, M$ crap sucks hard. Running MACOS on on macbook, and linux on everything else. When I really must have winders for things like ADI blackfin jtag programing tool or Microchip PIC programmer the it's VMware to maintain sanity..and isolation.

I happen to like OpenOffice, works for me. But then I've run firefox since I had to abandon Netscape and I like Thunderbird.

I do miss VMS, VAXmail VAXnotes though the do run on my personal cluster.

    Eck!
