Knowing grass

This is newgrass band Crooked Still, with their song "Half of What We Know" off their 2010 album Some Strange Country. Aoife O'Donovan gets semi-apocalyptic on us...

  1. Crooked Still remains a fine band but IMHO they lost their edge when cellist Rushad Eggleston left the group. They needed his fire and he needed their restraint. That sort of tension never lasts.

  2. I'm going to have to defer to your knowledge there. As you might imagine from the sheer number of bands that I put on my blog (and the fact that I rarely repeat myself), my level of knowledge varies from "hey that's a good song let me put it on the blog" to "I love this artist, let me find another song by them to put on the blog." In this case I came across Crooked Still based on connections to another band that's been on this blog before, not because I'm a long-time fan.

  3. BTW, I found out from another of the Internet's reliable news sources that Aoife O'Donovan came to an unexpected violent end on April 1. So I guess we're not going to have any more Crooked Still. Or are we? After all, the news account has her flying out of the flames singing Ain't No Grave...

  4. Well, if Rushad were still there he would doubtless go into the flames and bring her forth like Orpheus with Eurydice.

  5. BTW, is it just me, or is Aoife O'Donovan the sexiest woman in blue/newgrass? The big glasses and the fact that she's built like a normal woman with some meat on her bones rather than a scrawny Barbie doll don't do a thing to dull penguin lust, oh my, I must go peruse old copies of Bloom County again... ;).
