Cat TV

Approximately 5 seconds before I took this shot, Mencken and The Mighty Fang were sitting side by side watching the world go by. Then Mencken decided to walk off as I approached with the camera. This is as close to the Great Outdoors that they ever want to be -- they have absolutely no interest in going out the front door, and I'm glad for that, the urban environment is no place for a cat.

  1. Our cats won't go out either. They can be sitting right there in front of the door, we open the door and there they sit, just looknig at you like "What, you want me to go out THERE, I don't think so".

One day, Squeak got out the front door and off the steps. All of a sudden I hear this whiny meowing coming from the bushes by the steps. It was Squeak. He looked totally lost and confused. That was the last time he tried that.

  2. I'm so envious. You have sunshine, no snow and you can let the cats out on the deck without fear of them getting frostbitten paws. Sigh....

  3. Mencken is smart. He knew you were going to steal his soul with that contraption of yours.

  4. Good onya for not letting the kittehs out. Felines, as you know because you're a smart pengy, are hellacious for the environment. One of the reasons Australia's native fauna has been devastated is because of cats -- and not just the feral ones -- which catch the infant forms of this land's ultra-cute furry critters that didn't evolve to defend themselves against sneaky clawed things.

Mrs. Bukko forbids letting our two out, even though we have a nice fenced garden. But we live on a busy street, and she's convinced they'll do a suicide runner under the next car's wheels the moment they're through the door.

That said, they're hella interested in seeing what's out there. So during times when Mrs. B was back in the U.S. and I remained here, I let the kittehs out under close supervision. But I don't know -- is it better to have a taste of freedom when you can't get it regularly, or to never have it at all?

  5. Nice happy cats photo. Isn't that how it always is? You see the kitties doing something very special, grab the camera, and they stop before you get the shot!!
