Cat and Ladder

I had the ladder set up to get a bin of Christmas decorations down from the attic in the garage, and next thing I know, there's a cat up in the attic. So I pick him up and put him down on the ground again, and turn on my video camera to see what happens...

Turns out The Mighty Fang is mighty good at *climbing* ladders, but not so good at going *down* ladders. But never fear, no cat skeletons will be found in the attic. Not this week, anyhow.

  2. Sounded like a I screwed myself meow to me. Did the MF receive local assistance to get down.

  3. No, more like a "Get me down from here and pet me, slave!" meow, because the previous time I'd gotten him down from there, I'd hugged him and rubbed him and he purred. This was actually his *third* attempt, after the first time I put him down on the ground pulled out my camera, I was still putzing with the camera and he started back up the ladder *again*. So I put him back down, got the camera going, and there he goes.

He got his own way down though, he jumped up into the attic and worked his way to the other side and jumped down on those bins at the end, knocking everything on top of them to the floor in the process. C'mon. Have you ever seen little cat skeletons in trees or in attics? Unfortunately it took so long that I gave up trying to catch it on camera and went back to putting up Christmas deocrations...

  4. I've had several cats who loved ladders. There's nothing quite as fun as being up on the roof or in the attic or whatever, and you go to step on the ladder to get down, and there's a cat there. A cat who can't get down on his/her own, yet. Fortunately we live in a two-person household, so Hollering For The Spouse To Come Help is a well-worn trick.

  5. LOL. "Have you ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree?" was always my father's response when I came to him crying when my cat climbed a tree. (but I saw him out at the tree with a ladder once or twice too) :)

  6. I love the kitty videos :) TMF is a healthy, fine looking cat. His fur is so shiny that it's obvious that you take very good care of him.

I put up my outside lights yesterday with a couple of new additions. I sent the husband for a new welcome mat and a lighted Xmas decoration and got solar powered yard thingys that turn color and a snowman. Hilarious in San Diego, which is basically desert. I love them though. If I can figure out how to turn off the danged flash on my (supposedly idiot proof) camera I'll post a little video. The yard is very sad during the day, but pretty with the lights at night, lol

  7. My cats think nothing of climbing ladders, or many other things in the yard, even the power pole.

They wander around on every building here.

  8. Karen, funny how cats love climbing ladders but can't figure out how to get down without someone hugging them and rubbing them and telling them everything will be okay, hmm? :)

Lynne: The only reason I wasn't panicking on behalf of TMF was because he's been up there in the attic before and managed to get down by himself, so I figured he'd find a way this time too.

Nunya, if The Mighty Fang's fur was any shinier, I could use it as my shaving mirror in the morning :).

One of the chilling catthings my wife told me was about was when she and her ex were renovating the home they owned in the Diamond Heights section during the mid-90s. When they pulled open one of the walls in their 1940s-era home, they found a cat's skeleton inside one of the cinderblock crevices. Her theory is that the cat either got stuck in headfirst and couldn't back out, or it was trapped in some other way during construction. I often think of how horrible it must have been for that cat, essentially buried alive for the three or four days -- maybe more; cats are tough -- it took to die of dehydration. Shudder and weep...
