Apologies, excuses, and the death of Can-Do America

One of the things that infuriates me most about the right-wing dingbats is just how anti-American they are. Oh sure, they fucking wrap themselves in the goddamned American Flag, but all they have to offer is excuses for why things can't be done. Why can't we get food and water to people in New Orleans who need it? It can't be done because of this law and that law and requests needed and blah blah yada yada yada yada.

Goddamn, are you fucking pathetic hairless chimpanzees AMERICANS, or are you fuckin' EthiopiansUzbeks? We don't live in some small poor country with no resources even to feed its people. We live in the greatest fuckin' nation that ever existed on this whole goddamn planet, a nation that can do anything, ANYTHING, if we just put our mind to it, and all you fucking pathetic unpatriotic animals can do is make excuses about why things can't be done? WTF? Whatever happened to Can-Do America? Are you people so fucking unpatriotic that you think America *CAN'T* do stuff? Why do you hate America?!

So the whole reich-wing of the Internet was making excuses as to why things weren't being done to help the people in the city I love, people who were trapped in New Orleans in the Superdome and convention center with no food or water and no way out, pointing fingers as to who was to blame yada yada. I call bull****. Don't tell me why it can't be done, *DO* it. And yes, that's what I said when I called my Congresspeople and etc. It took far too long, but some people finally got the message, those people are finally getting the help they need. I don't put up with whiny excuse-makers whether they are the people I manage or this nation's politicians. Don't tell me why you can't do something. Tell me how you're going to do it, and tell me what you need from me in order to do it. Sheesh. This is a big nation, a wealthy nation, a nation that has a lot of resources, a nation that has a lot of people who will help in any way possible if told what they need to do in order to help. You're a leader with troops and FBI and stuff under your command, you need resources to help the people of New Orleans, tell us what you need and you'll have it. But by god, don't make excuses as to why you can't do it. I don't care who's to blame and I don't want to hear any excuses and I sure as **** don't want to hear denial that we got a problem at all. We got a problem, by god, so let's fix it!

Then there was the guy who blamed "liberalistic thinking" for why America can't do shit anymore. I call bullshit again. "Liberalist thinking" won World War II and created the Interstate Highway System and took this nation to the Moon and did a number of good things in this nation's past. "Liberalist thinking" is that we are a great nation, we can do any bleepin' thing we set our hands to, and by god don't give us excuses as to why things can't be done, tell us how you're going to do it and what we need to do to help! Don't tell me that we, the richest nation on the face of this earth, can't provide medical care to each and every American. Tell us, the American people, how it can be done, what you need from us, and then let's do it! Don't tell me that we, the greatest nation on the face of this earth, can't do something about the miserable educational system in the poorer states and inner cities. Tell us how it can be done, tell us what you need from us, then let's do it! By god, once we were a can-do nation, all this whiny excuse-making and finger-pointing and blame-mongering just drives me nuts. We're the greatest f'ing nation on the face of this Earth, by god don't tell me why we CAN'T do things, let's decide what we're going to do, what we need to do it, and then by god let's DO it! And if this "liberalist thinking" is an evil thing, then I guess that makes me a by-god evil person. All I know is that when the Republicans told FDR that he couldn't nationalize all U.S. industry to make the weapons needed to fight Hitler's evil because it was illegal, FDR told them to stuff it up their bungholes and did what it took to win this nation's greatest war. That's "liberalist thinking" -- that when people's lives are at stake, f*** the law. Do what it takes to save people's lives. Then worry about the legal stuff *later*. Because if it's a choice between a person's life and some dusty piece of paper in a courthouse somewhere, I by god know where *my* priorities lay, and it ain't on the side of the whiny excuse-makers. And if that thinking, that we're the greatest nation on this planet and can do anything we put our minds to do, is "liberalist thinking", then, by god, count me a liberal.

  1. I really like this blog, but what is this: "Goddamn, are you fucking pathetic hairless chimpanzees AMERICANS, or are you fuckin' ETHIOPIANS?" Pull your head out of your ass and stop writing stuff that makes you look like a bigot. It takes all the fun out of reading your blog.

  2. The problem isn't that Americans CAN'T do it anymore, it's that the right-wing ideologues who've hijacked our country DON'T WANT to do it.

  3. Dude, the point is that we don't live in Ethiopia. We're not a poor, starving country that has no resources. We are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, dammit, the richest nation on the face of this earth! But I'll pick some other small poor country out of the air if you'd like. Hmm, maybe Uzbekistan, they're white, will that satisfy your racial purity requirement?

BTW, I have now verified that Sheriff Harry Lee of Jefferson Parish is the person who set the checkpoint between New Orleans and the West Bank. And yes, he uses the word "nigger". Often. Speculation is that he has a white hood in the closet. Hell, more than speculation. The man as much as has said it. Now he has a bunch of his Klan buddies deputized to keep the "niggers from New Orleans" out of his parish, and is doing a little ethnic cleansing I bet to get rid of the ones who snuck in and bought homes there over the past 20 years. And if you think that's the ugliest fucking thing you ever heard, well, welcome to the ugliest little secret in Louisiana: Bigotry is not dead, and in fact, often isn't even kept secret the way it is in many parts of the country. I still can't forget the family get-together where one of my cousins asked, of the "behavior-disordered" students that I taught, "are they niggers or white people?" This wasn't in 1954. This was in 1994! (For the record, I glared at her for about 10 seconds, too angry to speak, and said, "they're children" and walked away).

Louisiana is the most frustrating, perverse state I've ever lived in, with so much good and so much evil living side by side in the same place. We're talking about the one state in the United States that guarantees medical care to all of its citizens regardless of their ability to pay, side by side with the state of David Duke and Harry Lee (two peas in a pod). One thing is certain: as a small poor state that has 1/5th of its population homeless now and 1/3rd of its economy underwater, Louisiana isn't going to be able to recover from this by itself. Is Louisiana going to get the help it needs from the remainder of the United States? I doubt it. I doubt it.
