Oh crap

Just changed the rear diff fluid in my Jeep. Managed to slice my finger open in the process. Fuck.

  1. Didn't anyone ever warn you about putting your fingers where they don't belong?

  2. But my fingers *did* belong there, I was tryin' to get the oil out of the little basin at the bottom of the differential, and managed to slice my finger on the sharp edge of the gasket (err, a Dana 44 doesn't supposed to have a gasket, you're supposed to use black silicone, but my diff cover always leaked when I did that so I put a gasket on it). All seems to be well now though. Phew!

  3. Hmm, didn't read the fine print telling me I have to sign in to Google for my comment to show up.

As far as I know, Type "o" isn't an approved additive to 80/90 gear oil or do you have that new super expensive synthetic shit?

  4. It's the expensive shit, Busted. 75/140 Mobil One synthetic. With the limited slip additive in a little tube you squirt into the diff before pumping the gear oil in (pump because you sure the fuck aren't gonna get a *bottle* of gear oil up there between the back of the diff and the gas tank skid plate!). And yeah, Type A ain't an approved additive either, but (shrug). It's just salt water with a bit of dissolved iron in it. Not the first time I left some unauthorized additive in a place it don't belong (SIGH!).

  5. When you hurt yourself, is your first instinct to go and blog about it? You might have an addiction issue there to deal with, son.
