Tuesday Morning Youtubery

Phosphorescent, "A Picture of Our Torn Up Praise". Interesting dream pop, don't quite know what I think about it but definitely not something you'll ever hear on the public airwaves. Matthew Houck will never be a big name, because, well, he isn't pretty. And being pretty is sort of a requirement for making it big in today's music scene.

  1. But isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder?

That's what I've been taught, anyway.

    Seems beautiful to me.

  2. Matthew is the scuzzy looking guy in the suspenders and red shirt. Definitely not one of the "pretty people". He emits the vibe of one of those homeless vagrants who live under a bridge, not a vibe of "OMG I want to jump his bones and make him my husband and sex slave!" (yes, my penguin radar is sensitive enough to detect such things whether the person involved is male or female). And unfortunately a pretty face opens a *lot* of doors in today's music industry, and keeps them open long after you'd expect them to be slammed closed. I can give examples of artists who would be nowhere if not for the fact that they are stunningly attractive people who emit a vibe that hits that primal instinct where bodily parts suddenly come to attention, but you probably already have your own list.

I do agree, however, that this is a beautiful song. I am not quite sure what I think about it, but I certainly am not going to put a song on my blog that I believe is mediocre and stupid. Turn on your FM radio if you want to hear those songs ;).
