First he states the obvious -- that Fox "News" is a partisan propaganda organization, not a legitimate news organization -- and basically states that he will treat Fox "reporters" the same way that he treats any Republican operatives, not as if they were real journalists. Then he says about the phony "study" that the insurers dropped like a horses head upon the American public, "Every time we get close to passing reform, the insurance companies produce these phony studies as a prescription and say, 'Take one of these, and call us in a decade.'" Has somebody been spiking Obama's Wheaties with some extract of spine?
Of course, since he's a Democrat, I don't expect it to last. It is well known that Democrats are invertebrates of order Teuthida genus Mollusca -- i.e., spineless, grasping, and with a bad habit of fleeing while spewing ink whenever they perceive something even the least bit threatening or even when you just say "boo!" to them. I'm sure that some Republican will say "Boo!" to him Real Soon Now, and then Obama will whimper and apologize or something. That's what always seems to happen with Democrats, anyhow...

It saddens me to find myself agreeing with reich-whingers on this, but Hopey gives some GREAT speeches, then does absolutely nothing about it. Same as the Chimperor would say all the reich things to his base (in his charming, dyslexic way) then do nothing about teh eeeeeeeevil of gay marriage, abortion, the Meskins hiding under your bed... In both cases, the base is lulled while the rich people steal the silverware.
ReplyDeleteTo follow up on that, since I've had my morning coffee and I'm feeling feisty, let me quote from the New York Times op-ed on "Rebranding America" by that guy Bono from the great Christian rock band U-2 (seriously, they're Christo-rock. Read between the lines of the allusions they make in the lyrics of just about every song):
ReplyDeleteSo here’s why I think the virtual Obama is the real Obama, and why I think the man might deserve the hype. It starts with a quotation from a speech he gave at the United Nations last month:
“We will support the Millennium Development Goals, and approach next year’s summit with a global plan to make them a reality. And we will set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty in our time.”
They’re not my words, they’re your president’s. If they’re not familiar, it’s because they didn’t make many headlines. But for me, these 36 words are why I believe Mr. Obama could well be a force for peace and prosperity — if the words signal action.
Even Bono knows it but can't admit it: "if the words signal action..." But then, he's a guy who thought he had converted Bush'it to his side, when it was actually BONO who had been sucked in to the web of pretty words.
Well, my political acumen is right up there with my ability to walk on water. But I have a feeling that BHO might not be the invertebrate those of us on the left have been thinking he is.
ReplyDeleteThe guy's been in office about 10 months and has 35 years of shit to undo. It's still a bit premature to throw in the Teuthida, and call it a lost cause.
Maybe, he knows what the hell he's doing after all. We shall see.
But any reason to mention squid is a good one!
Cheers!

The only guess I can come up with is, Obama's continuing to reach out to the unreachable Republicans, while reassuring various concerned (and quite vocal) subsets of the people who voted for him that their concerns will be addressed in due time, in order to make the Republicans and their adopted political strategy of opposing anything and everything Obama supports, to the exclusion of everything else, appear as fucking horrible and contemptible as he can make them and it appear.
ReplyDeleteWhich is a long way of saying he's giving them all the rope they need to hang themselves. Or finish hanging themselves.
And if that's the case, then it's a curiously bold move on Obama's part, since the kind of people running the GOP these days are the atavistic, serpent-brained descendants of the people who strung up by the neck those sharing Obama's skin color just for that reason.
I hope he does know what he's doing...
Technically speaking, Barrack is more an old school republican.. even ole' Bill was closer to OSR - there being no (recognized) left wing in U.S.A ian politics - it's either right of center.. or way right of center.. That said, Barrack, for all I dislike about him, has shown thru the years that he knows who he is & will stand his ground.. Moving when he wants..
ReplyDeleteObviously he represents & follows the directions of Big Money.. No one approaches the altar who doesn't.. Dissing Faux Noise is just a humorous act to Big Money.. but dissing the prime cash sink of Insurance might just get him in trouble.. if he means it.. (gawd, I sound like bono! ;-))
The real question is, has big money realized the futility of endless war & strife? Methinks not..
IMHO, YMMV, SRFD, RTFP..
