Right wing talking point: "We liberated Iraq's women."
This is a case of the cure being worse than the disease. As I predicted in 2002 and 2003.

In a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin.
The religious right is motivated by the suspicion that someone, somewhere,
is having fun -- and that this must be stopped.

Ground rules: Comments that consist solely of insults, fact-free talking points, are off-topic, or simply spam the same argument over and over will be deleted. The penguin is the only one allowed to be an ass here. All viewpoints, however, are welcomed, even if I disagree vehemently with you.
WARNING: You are entitled to create your own arguments, but you are NOT entitled to create your own facts. If you spew scientific denialism, or insist that the sky is purple, or otherwise insist that your made-up universe of pink unicorns and cotton candy trees is "real", well -- expect the banhammer.

ReplyDeleteRight wing talking point: "We liberated Iraq's women."
ReplyDeleteWhat utter nonsense...as usual. What? Liberated them so that they could be preyed upon as never before. Whee!
Oh, yes. Now that was "success." Women such as Riverbend, who were able to get along under even the worst of secular regimes (and I admit Saddam qualified as such), were forced to pack up and leave home under the "government" (and I use the term very, very loosely) left behind after Mr. Bush's imperial invasion. Liberation? What garbage!
ReplyDeleteThe Bushists are themselves religious zealots and imperialists. Nothing they could possibly bring to Iraq could have any benefit to the people of Iraq. "Liberation" is a fiction, a myth, a lie.
