In this case, the song he's adopted and made his own was originally written by Sting for Sting's album Mercury Falling. Needless to say, unless you knew this, you'd have no idea...

Two kinds of music were allowed in my childhood home: the Country Western my father played, and the classical-light my mother put on the stereo.
ReplyDeleteI hated most of the country stuff. But Cash was the exception....and to this day, the smell of eggs and bacon cooking seems to be missing something if I don't hear that graveled voice bouncing off the walls with it.
Heh. There were two kinds of music allowed in my childhood home too -- country and western :).
ReplyDeleteI sorta liked Tom T Hall's sappy story songs and Charley Pride's too. Other than that, I don't remember a whole lot of that period.
