Bailey Cooke, "Alabama Bound". This is off her debut album Tennessee, which appears to be a digital-only release available only from iTunes and Amazon. I thought to myself, "hmm, this sounds like some old-time song, let me go look up who wrote it." Well, there was indeed an old-time song called "Alabama Bound", but it was entirely different. As far as I can tell, this song is Bailey's.

I forced myself to listen to the whole thing. I was really bored, really quick. She doesn't have a pleasant voice or much vocal control, and this dirge goes no where. Not even to Alabama.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't hate her.
JzB not really into the hillbilly thang
Her voice sounds exactly like it's supposed to sound, sort of a cross between Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette with a bit of Beth Orton mixed in. I didn't notice a lack of vocal control, I noticed some distinctive country stylings that were quite under her control. I will agree, however, that the pace was rather... languid. Listen to some old Loretta or Tammy and they bounce along like a couple of bouncy... watermelons. This sorta languidly stretches like a cat that takes fifteen minutes to wake up from a nap.
