Vote for the crook, it's important.

The above was basically the unofficial campaign slogan when Edwin Edwards (D-Crowley) was running against David Duke (R-KKK) for Governor of Louisiana. Edwards, a notoriously crooked former governor, won his 5th term of office as governor in a blowout. Edwards was only recently released from Club Fed, in case you're wondering.

I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes the ideal is the enemy of the good. What brings this to mind is this editorial cartoon:

In case you're wondering, that's Crazy White Lady and the Seven Dwarves -- Dopey, Dopey, Dopey, Crazy-Eyes, Dopey, Gold Standard, and Dopey. Otherwise known as the Republican candidates for President of the United States.

I may think the President coddles criminals too much. But he is at least an intelligent adult. The same cannot be said about the Republicans (though I must admit neither Romney nor Huntsman is crazy -- but they do not have a snowball's chance in hell of being the Republican nominee either).

Come November 2012, vote for the crook. It's important.

  1. Any of their campaign slogans (especially those of the opponents) should include:
"Just what we need, another republican !"

  2. Keep voting for crooks, and all you'll get are crooks offered to you.

Take a look at how women got the right to vote...or how booze was outlawed, and then re-legalized. Those major changes came about because of the influence of "Third" parties. When the political professionals start seeing too many voters drifting away they know they have to get some of 'em back...especially when the numbers involved would have been enough to cover the spread (so to speak.) So they co-opt the issues that are driving people to seek answers elsewhere.

The only way to get the Dems/Repubs to change their ways is to stop voting for 'em until they do so. You're already half-way there, so don't give up now! ;)

That said, I'm extremely proud of my Democratic Congresswoman, and it'd take a lot for me to stop voting for her. But Obama has does almost everything I despised about Bush, and there ain't no way I'd vote for either of those guys...

  3. So you're saying we should have voted the Klansman into office in Louisiana? Just askin', Purple. I'm sure he woulda done a lot better than his predecessor sartorially -- Gov. Roemer was known to receive guests while wearing his bathrobe, receiving guests while wearin' a bedsheet woulda been a step up from that, heh -- but still. Is that *really* what you're suggesting we shoulda done in Louisiana? Elect the Klansman?!

    Astounded penguins are... astounded.

  4. I'm saying that if enough people hadn't voted for The Crook in previous elections just 'cause he had a "D" after his name then he most likely wouldn't have been a choice in the latest election.

I'm also saying that if you vote for Bush Light in the next national election, then you have no reason to complain when he continues doing the same ol' same ol'...'cause that is what you're telling 'em you want.

  5. Just remember that the Louisiana State Republican Party actually unoffically paid for bumper stickers that said "Vote for the crook, it's important". Other phrases like "Vote for the lizard, not the wizard" were common and Edwards actually spun his reputation as a ladies man to his advantage when he was quoted saying "The only thing we have in common is that we both have been wizards beneath the sheets."

Edwards was also endored by Bush-41.
