So sad

I've done this one before, but it's been a couple of years. Townes van Zandt, singing the first song he ever wrote, "Waitin' 'round To Die". There's been better singers. There's been better guitar players. There's been better songwriters, maybe. But how many of them can make a grown man cry?

  2. Sorry, Tim, no, I don't have tabs and chords to it, usually I just have to listen to a song a few times and I can play it (or something close enough -- my butchering of Neil Young's "Ohio" a few days back shows the start of my process of learning a song, a few days of practice are needed before I can really play it decently). But this is one that I sat down, played and sang it through, sat there in silence frowning for a few minutes thinking, "Why is Townes van Zandt's version sad enough to make a grown man cry, while mine... isn't?", and concluded it was something that wasn't amenable to tabs and chords, it was the whole package of Townes, his guitar picking, his voice, his life... and not having that whole package, it just didn't make any sense for me to play it. So I tossed my lyrics sheet and gave up adding it to my "set list"...

  3. I'm diffidently not talented enough to be able to pick out chords. Except for a few standards.
Well I been to sick to do anything today.
