Sleepless

Conor Furlong - "Are You Gonna Sleep Tonight?" off of his album Playing with Fire, available from iTunes.

As I post this video, fireworks explode outside. That is an appropriate thing to happen on Memorial Day eve. I came across this video yesterday and moved the video that *was* in this spot elsewhere. Click on the video and you will see why.

  1. Interesting juxtaposition of the old nuke tests and modern torture. War grotesqueries...

How many of those guys breathing blast-dust in the trenches, then marching through the still-hot Ground Zero, died before their time because of cancer from it? How many of the guys and gals in Iraq are gonna die before their time because of how their minds are bent by what they've done and seen? How many more of our own people did we kill through our actions, compared to the pittance of people killed by our ostensible enemies?

All nations have much bastardry to be ashamed of, of course, not just the U.S. (I keep getting surprised each time I find out about new shameful things Canada has done/is still doing, for instance.) It's just that I don't have to feel guilty about what these other countries do. Not my fault. I only feel the blame-shame for America's acts.

  2. Yeah, I was thinking about that when I saw the video, about how many of those guys at the nuclear test should be considered war dead, because they died for the Cold War. Sad to say, the U.S. government denied that the nuke test had anything to do with it until the very end...

Regarding Iraq, during the runup to Gulf War I one of my friends in the National Guard suddenly developed a "disability". He said to me, "dude, I signed up to defend our country, not to go fight a war for oil for a bunch of rich Kuwaiti assholes." I think of that every time I think of our occupation of Iraq, even though the assholes who put us there aren't rich Kuwaitis...
