"fudge factors to make the data say what I want it to say") that they apply to it, so that you *can* arrive back at the un-fudged data. That's what I used in the original comment about how the poor pay a higher percentage of their income than the rich do -- took the Tax Foundation's numbers, un-applied the "fudge factor", and arrived at the plain unvarnished truth. But you are absolutely correct that if you're simply looking at numbers on the Tax Foundation's web site, you're looking at numbers that have been so heavily spun and fudged that they're pretty much useless for making any statement other than, "The Tax Foundation is a bunch of liars" :).

-- Badtux the Statistical PenguinBadTuxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01345749557330760251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9612609.post-72787160841305637062010-08-10T06:17:55.927-07:002010-08-10T06:17:55.927-07:00The tax foundation is a bunch of god damned liars,...The tax foundation is a bunch of god damned liars, just like the Heritage foundation.

http://jazzbumpa.blogspot.com/2010/07/paul-krugman-hits-me-upside-head-with-2.html

http://jazzbumpa.blogspot.com/2010/02/taxes-and-revenues.html

WASF,
JzBJazzbumpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07337490817307473659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9612609.post-21631716966029280772010-08-09T20:44:23.286-07:002010-08-09T20:44:23.286-07:00Thank you BadTux.
