The narrator would say something like "What does a factory look like 50 years after people?" and then they showed the old Packard plant. The next scene was something like "what does an office building look like after people?" and they would cut to more pictures of Detroit. I just got so depressed that I couldnt watch it anymore. Just like I can't check out The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit website anymore.NoNamehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14525122106635914532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9612609.post-35761971963523888552011-10-25T10:07:03.971-07:002011-10-25T10:07:03.971-07:00Too bad we can't shoehorn some 1930s technolog...Too bad we can't shoehorn some 1930s technology into those jets. They sure are pretty. But I guess the secrets of the ancients are escaping us.

Lynn, it occurred to me while reading your post that I don't want to ever see that show "Life After People" again, because all that shit's happening now, with the people still here.Nangleatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01908938252272172718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9612609.post-85532471985274361402011-10-25T05:58:55.546-07:002011-10-25T05:58:55.546-07:00This really chaps my ass. Here is why.
I don'...This really chaps my ass. Here is why.

I don't actually live in Detroit but I spend a lot of time there. I love the city but it has problems. I've seen pictures of war torn cities that look better than some parts of Detroit. The poverty there is real in a way that I don't think most Americans see on a regular basis. Something like 50% of the population is illiterate. The unemployment rate is in the neighborhood of 30%. 30%!!!! There are whole skyscrapers abandoned. I actually got a little teary eyed over the weekend when I drove by the abandoned lot that used to be the high school I attended. The state of Michigan just kicked a bunch of people off welfare. Most of those people are CHILDREN. Detroit Public Schools has classrooms with more than 50 students. I could go on. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the big joke (that wasn't really a joke) was about how Detroit needed a hurricane to hit it in order to get some help.

So all I can think about is how much good $150 million dollars would do there. And it sickens me to see this kind of waste although honestly, even if those were the best fighter planes on the planet, it would still disgust me.NoNamehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14525122106635914532noreply@blogger.com
